What is Qromatech? That's a good question, because I'm still figuring it out myself. I'm Devalbo. I like technology, the Maker movement, and playing devil's advocate. That's why I do software, electronics, and like to try out new ideas.

So back to What is Qromatech? It's worth at least trying to answer since you're not me and if you've read this far, you deserve an attempt at an answer. So, to start, it's a combination of color-changing lights and technology for making performances pop visually.

I've been using addressable RGB lights and Arduinos as holiday decorations and karate performances for a decade now. A few years ago, I started adding them to karate demonstrations. Karate is really cool as it is, but adding flashing lights to a demo can really add an additional level of audience excitement.

After I had done these a few times, I got the idea to put them in a karate staff for a few reasons:

  • to see if it could be as cool as I imagined
  • to see if I could make it easy to administer and deploy (your karate user-base likes a flashy weapon, but don't want a lot of fuss)
  • to try to increase the appeal of technology to a wider audience

BTW, this post is still being written...
